Yamunanagar was formed as a new district of Haryana on 16 oct, 1989. Earlier it was a part of Ambala district.

Large Scale Industries :

The town has many large industries of plywood, paper, sugar and metal. Saraswati Sugarmill, the biggest sugarmill in Asia, is located here.

History of Yamuna Nagar :

Yamunanagar was earlier known as 'Abdullahpur'. Pre-independence it was a small village with population concentrated around Jagadhri railway station. After partition of India, many refugees from punjab in pakistan choose to make Yamunanagar their new home and in the process, adding to the culture of the town. The area where land was allocated to the refugees later developed in the model town area Yamunanagar.

Literacy in Yamuna Nagar :

Yamunanagar has the highest literacy rate in Haryana as far as education is concerned.

Projects in Yamuna Nagar :

It has one of the India's largest railway carriage and wagon repair workshop. Recently Reliance has also installed thermal power house in the town.
